The Algarve was once again elected as the best golf destination in Europe, in the 2018 edition of the Annual Travel Awards, organized by the British magazine “Today's Golfer”. The Algarve region collected this award for the second year in a row, having deserved 60 percent of the readers' votes for this publication.
In addition to the “Best Golf Destination in Continental Europe” award, the Algarve was also distinguished with the “Best Value Golf Destination in Continental Europe” award, which it had already won in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
«The quality-price ratio, the unique conditions of the courses, the integrated tourist experience and the mild climate place the Algarve at the top of the preferences of golfers, making the region an excellent destination for golfing», considered the Region of the Algarve Tourism Board (RTA).
In 2017, the Algarve recorded a record of more than 1,3 million rounds of golf, which corresponds to a growth of 5,3% compared to 2016.
Desidério Silva, president of RTA, stressed that «golf is a strategic product for the Algarve, which has been receiving numerous international awards, which recognize the excellent conditions in the region for the practice of this sport».
«With more than 40 golf courses, the region offers an integrated tourism experience that has been deserving the recognition of the most demanding professionals of this sport», concluded Desidério Silva.
