“Vassilissa ou a Boneca no Bolso” tells the story of a girl and her doll. This «wonderful spectacle» is «a initiation to the theater ritual» and will pass by the old sawmill of Monchique on the 10th and 11th of December.

This is an initiative that is part of the schedule of "Lavrar o Mar", aimed at both children and adults who accompany them. This is a story "of the most traditional of children's imagination", cultural programmer Madalena Victorino told Sul Informação.

“When she's about to die, Vassilissa's mother calls her and gives her a doll, telling her: “whenever you're worried you can talk to this doll and don't forget to always feed her,” he said.

The doll becomes your strength. Vassilissa's father remarries and the protagonist's stepmother doesn't want her at home. So Vassilissa is sent to the forest in search of fire.

“It is a metaphor for children's growth and entry into real life, which is not rosy. There are obstacles, hardships», explained Madalena.

At a certain point, a girl from the audience will also enter the scene and it is from this dialogue between witch and girl that this play will also be done, which has already been through Aljezur, where there was a full house.

This initiative is a production of “Teatro O Bando”, founded in 1974, in a co-production with Teatro Delle Briciole and Centro Cultural de Belém.

The shows, which are part of the "365Algarve", are scheduled for December 11th, at 10:30 am and 14:30 pm, for schools, and December 10, at 16:30 pm, for families.

Tickets cost 3 euros for adults, 2 euros for children and can be purchased here
