The III International Poetry Meeting in the South, which runs until November 12, in Olhão, is already a partner of the Marrakesh International Poetry Festival, «one of the most important literary events in Morocco».

In practice, this partnership will translate into the joint promotion of poetry from both countries on both continents. For example, the next edition of the Moroccan festival will be dedicated to Portuguese poetry, as announced in Olhão by its director Said Tigraoui.

This partnership was signed at the inaugural session of the festival from Olhão, on the 3rd of November. The poet Fernando Cabrita, commissioner of the initiative, referred, in the opening session, to the qualitative leap that the Festival is seeing in the 2017 edition.

“Poesia a Sul has placed the name of Olhão on the national cultural agenda in just three years, with regard to this type of event,” he said.

In the international projection of the event, this was demonstrated in the signing of the partnership protocol with the Marrakesh International Poetry Festival, «a leap in internationalization that few festivals have taken until today», he said.

The inaugural session also served to present to the public the 2nd edition of Cadernos Poesia a Sul, which brings together unpublished texts by poets from all over the world.

On the occasion, António Pina, mayor of Olhão, also welcomed all the participants, who had come from all over the world, reinforcing the importance of the role of local authorities «in promoting this type of cultural events, which they put forward. forward the poet and the population».

Poesia a Sul, an initiative of the municipality of Olhão, curated by the poet Fernando Cabrita, enters its 3rd edition with a more international nature, with the presence of guests from Morocco, Cuba, Spain, Brazil, Dominican Republic, France, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Holland, Vietnam, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and, of course, Portugal.
