Film Club of Faro ends 2017 with a month full of cinematographic proposals

A "long" day, as far as film screening is concerned, but also "The shortest day", and of course, a day dedicated to light, with another session of “Video Lucem”. The Cineclube's schedule Faro for December it will have this (and more), with the proposals starting on Saturday, says December 2nd, and continuing until the 28th, very close to the end of the year.

The last initiative that the Cineclube de Faro will promote in 2017 is also one of the highlights in the December schedule. On the 28th, the association from Faro will celebrate the Day of the Cinematograph, in what will be «a tribute to the first public screening of Cinema, made by the Lumière brothers at the Grand Café in Paris».

Throughout this day, there will be plenty of cinema, but also “activities for children, a dinner inspired by popular French cuisine, soirée and get-togethers with wine and hot chocolate”.

The films will be shown throughout the day, in the auditorium of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, in Faro. The cinematographic marathon starts at 11:30 am, with the screening of the film “Azur and Asmar”, by Michel Ocelot (France), followed by “The Brothers Grimmm”, by Terry Gilliam (USA), at 14:30 pm, “The Influence of Gamma Rays on Behavior of the Daisies”, by Paul Newman (USA), at 17:30 pm, and “Lumière! The Adventure Begins”, by Thierry Fréumax (France), at 21 pm.

A week before this day with lots of cinema, on December 21st, the short films will be highlighted, in a new edition of “O dia shorter”.

In this initiative, which takes place on the day that marks the winter solstice, works that stood out in the 25th edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde festival will be shown, which are shown from 21 pm. Before that, the public will be able to enjoy the “Amiguinhos” program, starting at 30:15 and the All-Curtas, a section dedicated to films produced in the Algarve, scheduled for 00:17.

Highlight, still, for the second cine-concert of Video Lucem, cycle that the Cineclub of Faro promotes, in partnership with the Diocese of Algarve, which is part of the “365Algarve” program.

In December, the session takes place on December 7, at 21 pm, at the Church of São Clemente, in Loulé, and the film to be shown will be “Mother”, by Vsevolod Pudovkin (USSR). She will be accompanied live by Custódio Castelo (Portuguese guitar), Carlos Menezes (double bass) and Fad'Nu (Cátia Alhandra, on vocals, and José Alegre, on Portuguese guitar)

In December, the Cineclub de Faro it will also promote special weekend cycles, dedicated to the themes “Duplas Director & Composer”, “Eastern Winds” and “Animation for All”.

On Saturday, December 2, at 21 pm, “Ventos de Leste” brings to the IPDJ auditorium the film “Arsenal”, by Aleksandr Dovzhenko (USSR).

On Sunday 3, at 16 pm, the same room will host the exhibition of the work “Julieta dos Espíritos”, by Frederico Fellini (Italy/France), from the cycle “Duplas Director & Composer”. In the same context, the film “Lola”, Jacques Demy (France) can be seen on December 00, at the same time and in the same place.

The 17th will also feature “Animation for All”, in which the film “The Prophet”, by Roger Allers (Qatar/USA/Canada/Lebanon), will be screened at 11:00 am, at the IPDJ.

To this (already wide) offer, there is also the regular programming of the Farense Cineclub, which will include «three of the main films distinguished in the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival: “O Quadrado”, by Swedish director Ruben Östlund (with the Palme d'Or ), “The Next Day”, by the South Korean Hong Sangsoo, and “120 Beats per Minute”, by the French-Moroccan Robin Campillo (both awarded by the International Cinéfila Society).

The films can be seen, respectively, on December 5th, 12th and 19th, always at 21 pm. The first two sessions take place in the IPDJ auditorium. On the 30th, the film is shown at Teatro das Figuras, also in Faro.
