“The Mother”, by Vsevolod Pudovkin, set to music by Custodio Castelo and guests. So will be the second cine-concert of “Video Lucem”, to be held on December 7th, from 21 pm, at the Igreja Matriz de S. Clemente, in Loulé.

This film is “invariably placed as one of the most important of all times, not only from the silent film era”, says the organization.

Adapted from the homonymous literary work by Máximo Gorki, the film, from 1926, tells the story of workers' struggles to improve their living conditions, against inhuman and cruel bosses, and of a mother who starts from her son's anguished protection until she becomes the heroine of all combatants.

Pudovkin was, along with Eisenstein, the most important theorist of cinematographic editing in those years when cinema was taking its first steps.

«This film of yours is an example of that same genius. With powerful interpretations, including the unforgettable figure of Vera Baranovskaya in the role of mother, it will feature the live creation of the brilliant Portuguese guitarist Custódio Castelo, accompanied by his guests, which will constitute a show of fabulous originality».

From a very early age, «Custódio Castelo was considered a prodigy for his audacious approach to the Portuguese guitar».

His talent was recognized by fado singers such as D. Vicente da Câmara, Carlos do Carmo, Camané, Mariza or Cristina Branco. His versatility led him to opt for the fusion of the Portuguese guitar with other sounds and interpreters, such as Richard Galliano, Daniele di Bonaventura or Olga Pratz.

For this concert he challenged the Algarveans “Fad'NU” and the double bass player Carlos Menezes. The entrance to this new exhibition of “Video Lucem”, which has the support of "365Algarve", it's free.
