Algarve wines returned to the Wine Market in Praça de Touros, Campo Pequeno, Lisbon, between 20 and 22 October, in the sixth edition of that initiative which this time had as its motto «Small producers, Great discoveries».

It was the return to this wine promotion event in the Portuguese capital, after last year's success, in which the Algarve region was the focus, which occupied the central area of the former bullring.

The presence in this edition took place in an area of exhibition and exhibition dedicated exclusively to Algarve Wines, in an initiative of the CVA – Algarve Wine Commission, which contracted the space and invited all producers to participate in the exhibition.

The eight producers who accepted the challenge and made known their wines were Quinta do Francês, Convento Do Paraíso, Monte do Além, Quinta da Malaca, Morgado do Quintão, Marchalégua/Borges da Silva, Paxá Wines and Cabrita Wines.

All these participants were unanimous in considering CVA's initiative of bringing together several producers in an area dedicated to the Algarve, very positive, because it not only made it possible to reduce costs at the event, but also contributed to reinforcing the region's global image.

For Leonor Frazão, oenologist at the Convento do Paraíso, “participation makes perfect sense, because the event aims to provide visitors with great discoveries of wines, from smaller producers, which fits in with the brand's philosophy”.

José Cabrita said that he wants “that Cabrita wines gain more visibility in the Lisbon market and that, with this, he achieves a better commercial and distribution relationship in this area of the country”.

Joaquim Lopes, from Paxá Wines, tunes in the same tone, highlighting the notoriety that the event allows: “it is not for the sales that we are here, but for the visibility that is obtained, not only the Algarve, but also our wines, especially when we present something exclusive and unique in the Algarve which is the Negra Mole variety, of which we have a varietal, and which is being a success in terms of reception”.

Aníbal Neto, who represented Marchalégua and Borges da Silva, reinforces the importance of promoting wines in Lisbon, referring to the “growing importance of this market which, in addition to its consumption, is also growing a lot in attracting tourists, making it an ideal complement to proximity to the Algarve market”.
