The III International Poetry in the South Meeting takes place from 3 to 12 November, in Olhão, and, «after the success of the first two editions, the event takes on an even more international character».

The event will be attended by guests from Morocco, Cuba, Spain, Brazil, Dominican Republic, France, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Netherlands, Vietnam, Turkey, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela and, of course, Portugal.

The list of participants (more than fifty poets, musicians, teachers, lecturers and translators, coming from 16 countries) «represents an opportunity for the dissemination of international contemporary poetry and for direct contact between the public and the writers who create and produce it, in a privileged setting, such as the city of Olhão», says that City Council.

The International Poetry in the South Meeting, which since 2015 has been bringing together poets from various countries around the world, appears in its 3rd edition, «consolidated as one of the important literary festivals of today, a projection reflected in the partnerships established with the International Poetry Festival of Marrakesh, Morocco, and the Verso Adentro International Literary Encounter, in Aracena, Spain».

This initiative constitutes, therefore, «an opportunity for poets of the most diverse origins and languages to meet for 10 days of exchange, sharing, lectures, debates, round tables, book presentations, readings, tributes, exhibitions and socializing, in a initiative that the organization intends to be open to the participation of the general public».

The Meeting has a parallel diversified and attractive entertainment program, starting with the poetic show “Impro-vérsatilis”, by Alexis Diaz Pimienta and Charo Martin, scheduled for the start-up day, at 22:30, in the Municipal Auditorium, and whose revenue reverts in favor of ADAPO – Association for the Defense of Animals and Plants of Olhão.

The inaugural session is inaugurated on November 3, at 18 pm, at the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho, with the presence of António Pina, mayor of Olhão.

The parallel animation will once again pass through the Municipal Auditorium on Saturday, November 11th, at 22 pm, with the show “Poesia Homónima”, by Júlio Resende and Júlio Machado Vaz.

Also this year, Poesia a Sul has an appointment with schools in the municipality, with the initiative “Poets and poems of the world”.
