The Municipality of Alcoutim and MEO signed a protocol, last 30th of August, in which they commit to «carry out efforts to increase fiber optic coverage throughout the municipality of Alcoutim».

The objective is, then, to benefit «the populations and companies, making the municipality more technologically qualified».

With this protocol, MEO undertakes "to, whenever feasible, provide access to its conduits so that the municipality can develop fiber optic interconnection projects for municipal buildings or other projects of public interest", explains the Chamber of Alcoutim .

In turn, the Municipality “will allow, whenever feasible, access to its conduits, reinforcing the development of the MEO network throughout the entire municipality”.

“With the migration of network technologies to higher speed protocols, there has been a widespread use of optical fibers for local network applications. By equipping buildings with fiber optic technology, doors are opened for an offer of electronic communications services», he adds.

“Fiber optic technology enhances the quality of telecommunications services, resulting from the demand for ever greater bandwidths, in order to respond to the needs of operability and service innovation for domestic and business consumers”, he concludes.
