The independent candidacy “Olhão pelo Cidadão Movimento” presented a list headed by Rui Santos to the Municipality of Olhão. The group of citizens is making its debut in these elections and is only running for this municipal body, at the Autárquicas on 1 October.
On the other hand, in Lagos, the current councilor Luís Barroso once again heads the list of the «Lagos com Futuro» movement to the City Council.
The independent candidacy, which in the 2013 elections managed to elect Barroso as councilor and several members for the other municipal bodies, also presents lists again to the Municipal Assembly (whose list head is Ana Margarida Martins) and to the Parish Councils of São Gonçalo ( Joaquim Pedro Cruz), Luz (Fernando Ildefonso), Odiáxere (José Vieira) and Bensafrim and Barão de São João (Cristina Marreiros). The representative of the independent candidacy is the radio host Fátima Peres.
In the manifesto for "Lagos com Futuro", the movement says it wants to "encourage the participation of all citizens in the destinies of our municipality". Its projects involve «implementing a new strategic vision in order to attract new investments and jobs; boost our economy all year round; create conditions for a fair price youth housing; guaranteeing Lacobrigenses better access to primary health care; intervene in the area of security ensuring greater comfort in circulation within the city; support the animal cause by promoting the sterilization and treatment of homeless animals; to fight for a more inclusive city, friend of the people, a more pleasant city to live and know; affirm Lagos as a center of modernity and cultural reference in the Algarve; enhance the historic center, stimulating its repopulation».
In Olhão, Rui Santos heads a list whose number two is Luis Carlos Rodrigues, followed by Isabel Ricardo Leal. The candidate's representative is Maria Pereira Sargaço.
This is not the first time that the movement has tried to vote, in the Municipal Elections. In 2013, the citizens' group sought to obtain the necessary signatures, but was unable to gather enough. This year, the situation was different, with the candidacy already approved and the list posted at the Court of Olhão.
O Sul Informação he has already tried, in several ways and several times, to contact Rui Santos and his citizens' movement, but always without success.
"Olhão pelo Cidadão Movimento" and "Lagos com Futuro" are not the only independent candidacies for local government bodies, with no connection to or support from any party, in the region. In Albufeira, VIVA – Vontade Independente Viver Albufeira, by current councilor Ana Vidigal, elected as independent in 2103, he has now seen the court reject his candidacy, but he has not given up on going to votes yet..
In Monchique, the group «Citizens for Monchique» candidate João Duarte for the Chamber and presents lists to the Municipal Assembly and the Parish Council of Monchique.
Em Faro, there is a «Candidate for Love», Humberto Correia, an independent candidate who for months gathered signatures in the city's downtown and at the Municipal Market, joining the fight for the presidency of the Faro Chamber.
Also independent is the candidacy of José Estevens for the presidency of the Chamber of Castro Marim, a position he has already held, elected by the PSD. The former Castro-Marinean mayor entered into a rupture with the Social Democrats when he was passed over in the candidacy for the Chamber by Francisco Amaral, handed over his militant card and advanced with the independent candidacy «Castro Marim First». This movement presented lists to all municipal bodies in Castro Marim.
