The fire brigades of São Brás de Alportel, Monchique, Aljezur, Silves and Alcoutim were five of those awarded, at national level, with individual protection equipment offered by the Os Mosqueteiros group, which owns the Intermarché, Bricomarché and Roady insignia, in Portugal.

The company delivered 500 pieces of equipment to the Portuguese Firemen League, consisting of a forest boot, gloves, a breech, a forest protection suit (Pants and Dolman), a helmet and a sweatshirt. This material was later drawn by corporations across the country. Five of the winners are from the Algarve.

«We have been working with the Portuguese Firefighters League for several years now and we know their needs well. In the recent past, we joined forces to acquire fire-fighting vehicles – we got 50. For 4 years, the priority has been to fill the need for effective fire-fighting equipment. So far we have been able to deliver 1.750 pieces of equipment, expecting, in a short time, to have another 500 ready for delivery,” explains João Magalhães, administrator of the Os Mosqueteiros group.

Before the 500 pieces of equipment now delivered, 1250 had already been distributed. All this material will have motivated an investment of close to one million euros by the group.

«The help that comes to us now from the Os Mosqueteiros group, which over the years has been with the Firefighters, touches me in a special way. This support is aimed at firefighters, who while we are here, are fighting heroically on the ground. At such a problematic time for Fire Brigade corporations as is the summer, the equipment now delivered will provide better working conditions and most likely save the lives of men and women who are on the front lines and in contact with the flames», illustrated Jaime Marta Soares, president of the Portuguese Firemen League.

However, whoever wants to help, can purchase the children's book “Firemen from feet to head”, released by Os Mosqueteiros and by Liga dos Bombeiros. The value of the book, 1,99 euros, reverts to the purchase of equipment for firefighters. The book is on sale from north to south of the country at Intermarché, Bricomarché stores and at Roady auto centers.

"The objective of this project is, on the one hand, to raise awareness and involve the youngest in the prevention of fires and, on the other hand, to help raise funds for the purchase of more individual protection equipment to fight forest fires," according to the economic group.
