It looks like a movie script, but the situation is very real and it took place on the 4th of July at Praia D. Ana, in Lagos: two children ran into the sea, were caught by the current and taken away. Their father threw himself into the water, but, to his dismay, he only managed to catch one. Coming out of the water, he saw his second son already on land, on the surfboard of the surfer who saved him, an anonymous hero who quickly returned to the water.

«It was a miracle!». This is how Michael Wasacz, a tourist who chose the Algarve to spend his holidays in early July, classifies the rescue of one of his children by a total stranger. Recently, and after returning to Canada, the grateful father asked the ASMAA – Algarve Surf and Marine Activities Association, leaving a message on their Facebook page.

“I have never been so grateful to anyone in my life. I didn't have a chance to thank him properly because he was just back in the water as soon as he made sure my son was safe. This man is a true hero and he didn't even think twice about doing what he did. The surfer seemed to be local and I would like to locate him», asks Michael Wasacz in his message to the association.

In the text, the man leaves a description of what happened on the 4th of July. «I was with my family on vacation in Lagos and when we arrived at Praia D. Ana, there were big waves, but my children wanted to get in the water. I warned them of the current, but two of them were pulled out. It all happened so fast. I went after them and managed to grab one. The other was taken. I thought I had lost him », he described.

“When they helped me back to shore, my wife was screaming that they already had it. I couldn't believe it. It was a miracle! My son was on a surfboard and was saved! A surfer had rescued him before he submerged,” he added.

Michael Wasacz now asks for help in finding the unnamed hero, or at least to get his message across. “I wanted to ask you to spread the word as much as possible how grateful I am for bringing my son safely to Montreal. Thank you, thank you», he concluded.

Anyone who has information about the hero surfer can contact the Sul Informação or the ASMAA.
