In a statement, the Monchique PS criticized Chamber President Rui André (PSD) for not having built a Multipurpose Pavilion in the former sawmill, where the Ham Fair was held this weekend.

PS reminds that «that still a year ago the president of the Chamber it eluded everyone and everything by pointing out that, in 2017, the event would already take place at the Multiusos Pavilion (a project that already had a project in preparation and would be completed by this time)».

Socialists say that, “once again, the event takes place in a yard that served as a shipyard for an old sawmill. A space that does not guarantee adequate conditions for the exhibition of products, neither for visits nor for shows. A space that does not offer the dignity that is required for an event that was intended to emphasize and enhance the municipality's potential».

However, the PS continues, «the non-implementation of the project and work announced in 2016 by Rui André does not surprise us, as it is not a specific case. The same has already been seen with an idea of a slaughterhouse announced in 2010, which later became a slaughterhouse, then a mobile slaughterhouse and that, after seven years, it remains unexecuted».

Monchiquense socialists consider that «an adequate space for exhibitions, fairs and other events, as well as support for producers in the preparation of municipal products, valuing them, are ideas that have to be implemented, but words are not enough, it is necessary to pass on the action".
