José Estevens, leader of the Independent Movement Castro Marim First – CM1 – will present his candidacy for the Castro Marim City Council, at a dinner in the space adjacent to the Park Children's village, on August 5th, at 20:00.

At this dinner, which will bring together, according to the movement, «a thousand of Castromarinenses will present the candidatures of the CM1 Movement to the various municipalities in the municipality: Municipal Assembly, Municipal Council and Parish Assemblies of Altura, Azinhal, Castro Marim and Odeleite».

The movement says that «the independent candidacy of José Estevens for the Municipality of Marim aims to reverse the situation of total economic and social paralysis in which the council has plunged in the last four years. It is urgent to undertake a set of policies capable of enhancing the attractiveness that Castro Marim experienced between 1998 and 2013, putting this “Land with History” back on the map».

José Estevens was mayor of Castro Marim for 16 years, between 1998 and 2013, always elected by the PSD.

In 2013, having reached the three consecutive terms permitted by law, he was unable to run for office again in Castro Marim, giving way to Francisco Amaral, until then president of the neighboring municipality of Alcoutim, who won the elections.

That same year, Estevens ran for the Chamber of Tavira, but was defeated by the socialist Jorge Botelho.

More recently, Estevens starred um iron arm with Francisco Amaral, jthat, being leader of the Municipality of the Castromarinense PSD, he took away his political confidence, because he also intended to be the candidate for the Chamber again.

But National Political Commission of Social Democrats maintained its support for the re-candidacy of the current mayor Francisco Amaral and Estevens ended up by slam the door to his decades-long party in protest. It now appears at the head of this autarchic movement.
