Mário Cintra, who was a member of the Municipality of the PSD of Portimão and intended to be number 2 on the list of the CDS/PSD coalition to the Portimão Chamber, is after all the candidate of the «We, Citizens» party to that municipality, in the elections scheduled for October 1st.

As head of the list for the Municipal Assembly, there is the doctor José Dias, who was already elected councilor by the PSD, in the Portimão Chamber.

The candidacy of both PSD dissidents, now under the acronym for «We, Citizens», will be presented on August 3, at 19 pm, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, in Portimão.

Mário Cintra, an engineer by training, currently a teacher, has already left the PSD and handed over his militant card, to which the Sul Informação found out. José Dias was never a member of that party.

Mário Cintra never hid his opposition to the solution found by social-democratic leaders at local and regional level, of accepting to form a coalition with the CDS to run together for the Portimão Chamber, but led by the centrist José Pedro Caçorino, current councilor elected by the “Serving Portimão” movement.

In March, just like the Sul Informação then reported first hand, Mário Cintra was one of the four members of the Political Committee (CP) of the Portimão PSD Section that demanded the immediate resignation of the president of this body, for criticizing the process that led to the coalition with the CDS to run for City Council from that city in the Western Algarve.

Later, Mário Cintra tried to force his position as number 2 on the list headed by Caçorino, in other words, so that he could appear as the first candidate of the PSD. But, according to what our newspaper learned from David Santos, president of the PSD/Algarve, «the lists for the various bodies in Portimão are not yet fully defined», and should remain so in the next few days. Lists must be delivered by the 7th of August to the court.

Asked to comment on the candidacy of Mário Cintra and José Dias under the acronym “We, Citizens”, the leader of the Algarve social democrats accused: “they are people more concerned with their individual protagonisms than in joint projects for the municipality of Portimão».

But it is not only in this municipality that the top list chosen by the PSD/Algarve are causing splits in the party. In Vila do Bispo, due to the fact that the PSD/CDS candidacy is now headed by a councilor who had been elected by the PS on the list of the current socialist president of the Chamber, Luís Paixão, president of the Parish Council of Sagres, he slammed the door and refused to run for his party, preferring to stand in elections in front of a group of citizens.

The current mayor of Sagres «did not want to be a candidate for the PSD, preferring to present himself that way. It's his choice. Our list head, Afonso Nascimento, is an independent with a proven track record», commented David Santos, speaking to Sul Informação.

As for 'We Citizens', it is being revealed in a hat party for all types of candidates: if in Portimão it welcomed PSD dissidents, in Olhão supported the current president and socialist re-candidate António Pina, and, in Tavira, it supports an independent, with little or no experience in politics. may still arise applications in other Algarve municipalities.
