Luís Paixão, who is the current president of the Parish Council of Sagres and was elected by the PSD, will now run for the Municipal Elections on October 1st, but heading a Group of Citizens Electors.

Like the Sul Informação had already revealed, this is the result of the discontent of the social democrats of the municipality of Vila do Bispo in relation to the support given by their party's District to the candidacy, presented as independent, of Afonso Nascimento to the Municipal Council of that county in the southwest of the Algarve. Afonso Nascimento was elected in 2013 as councilor, but on the PS lists, although now he appears as an independent, supported by the PSD and the CDS, which thus dispensed with submitting their own candidacies in that municipality.

In a statement sent to newsrooms and published on his Facebook page, Luís Paixão admits: "many must be wondering why I'm going to run for a Group of Citizens Electors and not for the party for which I've run for more than 24 consecutive years." PSD

And he answers, frankly: «I do it because I do not agree with the strategy adopted for the Autárquicas 2017 by the PSD Algarve».

This "disagreement", he stresses, "is not about personal issues, it has to do with principles that I do not abdicate, because I believe that a political party must be governed by principles, ideals and values."

“A political party cannot follow the same guidelines as a football team, in which it hires a player because it thinks that with him it has more guarantees of winning. Political leaders cannot run parties as if they were football, in December a player is at club A, doing everything to defeat club B, and in January, with the opening of the market, he starts playing at club B, kiss him. the emblem and says he has belonged to this club since he was a little boy, every time he changes clubs», adds Luís Paixão.

The candidate even considers that “these are attitudes that increasingly discredit politics. On this subject, I'm going to put a stone on top of it, I'm not going to speak or write any more, only if they give me reasons to change my opinion».

Called "Passion for Sagres", the Citizens' Electors Group includes "a group of people, mostly young people, who like Sagres and are eager to work for this land."

The head-of-list stresses that "candidacy for a Parish Council is a collective task, I am just one among many, I believe in the value of the work of all those who make up the list, because everyone has a passion for Sagres."

"I believe that the discussion of ideas will only bring benefits to Sagres, a leader cannot stick only to his ideas, he must always be available to hear everyone's opinion, because together we are stronger", he adds. Hence, Luís Paixão makes a point of saying that «our group, despite being large, is not closed, we welcome all those who want to contribute to Sagres, whether on the list of candidates or signing the list of proponents of our candidacy'.
