Students at João de Deus Secondary School, from Faro, will discuss the final of the “2017 FAQtos Award – Applying the RF”, this Saturday, July 8th, at the Congress Center of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). The young people from the Algarve are going to present a project on an application for mobile devices that provides information on the presence of biotoxins in bivalves.

Students will defend on stage the work “Consumer Information and Food Safety: Biotoxins in Bivalves”.

This award is an initiative of INOV-INESC, with IST, within the scope of FAQtos, the Portuguese project that informs the public about the impacts of electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile communication systems on health and the environment.

Until reaching the final, the groups/works passed several elimination stages of evaluation. In total, the FAQtos 2017 Award received applications from 62 groups, the equivalent of 196 students and 40 teachers from 35 secondary schools in 13 districts and 2 autonomous regions.

In the public presentation, students will face the jury composed of Luís M. Correia (Coordinator of the FAQtos and IST project, University of Lisbon), Custódio Peixeiro (IST, University of Lisbon), Carolino Monteiro (Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon), Isaura Vieira (General Directorate of Education), Pedro Rosário (General Directorate of Health) and Diana Pinto (Vodafone).
