A new degree in Mathematics Applied to Economics and Management will open at the University of Algarve in the 2017/18 academic year. This course, which will be taught at the Campus de Gambelas (Faro) of the university, is the result of a joint initiative of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT) and the Faculty of Economics (FE) and will have «a highly qualified teaching staff, which guarantees the quality of this cycle of studies, contributing to a solid training in technical staff, equipped with analytical and computational tools required by the dynamic and global market», according to UAlg.
Graduates of this course will be able to exercise functions «in government bodies, consulting companies, banks, insurance companies, survey and market research companies, and other companies in the management sector that base the decision-making process on the construction of mathematical models for planning , development and functioning of its activities'.
This 1st cycle training can then be continued with masters in several areas, namely those that “require a strong component in Mathematics, in particular in the areas of Tourism Economics, Environmental and Natural Resources Economics, Strategic Management of Organizations, Management Operations, Performance Assessment, Marketing, Accounting, Finance and the like».
This is a training offer that guarantees the future to those who choose it, since, recalls UAlg, «according to the Employment and Professional Training Institute, the employability rates in the scientific area of Mathematics, namely in the area of Applied Mathematics to Economy and Management, are the highest at national level».
FCT and FE «value the participation of students in extracurricular activities and the learning of the English language, in order to facilitate contacts with the many foreign students who attend the University of Algarve and to enhance the countless opportunities for international mobility». "The two faculties also maintain a close relationship with the business world and regional and national public entities, duly formalized through protocols that provide for the offer of internships and the provision of services that involve the participation of students," added the university.
