There will be no shortage of nurses at the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South and the problems of this health unit located in São Brás de Alportel will be gradually resolved, as soon as the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) becomes a reality. The guarantee was given to the Sul Informação by Paulo Morgado, president of the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS), and should be the main message that Health Minister Adalberto Campos Fernandes will transmit to the delegation of mayors from São Brasenses who will travel to Lisbon on Monday, by invitation of the member of the Government.

Yesterday, Wednesday, May 31, the minister called the mayor of São Brás Vítor Guerreiro to invite him to a meeting in Lisbon, on Monday, extending the invitation "to the council's mayors", announced today the São Brasense mayor, during the solemn celebration of the Municipality Day. The meeting was requested by Vítor Guerreiro, at a time when the situation at the center is the order of the day, after complaints by the PSD that it would be on the verge of closing, due to the insufficiency of nursing professionals.

But, as Paulo Morgado assured, this possibility "has never been on the table". “Three nurses from the CMR South announced that they were going to leave, as they had applied for places in hospitals in the North and in the NEM. This caused some disturbance as people warned at the last minute that they would be leaving in a few days. We managed to resolve this situation using nurses from the Algarve Hospital Center, some of whom have already worked at the centre, who will guarantee the shifts of their colleagues who, due to personal decisions, left the region», explained Paulo Morgado.

«The director of the center, of course, made me aware of her concerns, as the lack of resources that was foreseen could create difficulties from the middle of next month. But we, in contact with the institutions that could help us, resolved the situation», he reinforced.

A definitive solution for the many difficulties that this center has come and continues to face, it will have to go through the creation of the new CHUA, which will include the Center for Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine of the South. But we, at this moment, have a path and a strategy, which, in our view – which is even shared by the unions, the Orders, the health professionals and the mayors – can guarantee the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center conditions to recover these years in which he was half asleep», considered Paulo Morgado.

For that to happen, it is necessary to resolve "the legislative process" that will allow the creation of this new structure, something that Paulo Morgado hopes can happen "still in June". The president of the ARS do Algarve recalled that the decrees of law such as the one that will allow the end of the CHA and the creation of the CHUA «take time to be approved by the Council of Ministers», bearing in mind that they have to pass before a «circuit and by several ministries».
