Those who like to ride asphalt outside to discover tourist destinations now have a good reason to choose the Algarve.

The Tourism Region has just published the first road cycling route guide in the Algarve, challenging beginners and experienced cyclists to pick up their bikes to explore sixteen municipalities during the year.

It is unprecedented, it has almost 90 pages and 41 routes defined to use the pedal: the guide now published by the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), in partnership with the Portuguese Cycling Federation, aims to promote the excellent conditions of the Algarve destination for activities outdoors, especially for cycling and cycling.

The routes are organized in three zones (east, central and west), which cover all the municipalities in the region. And they are segmented by difficulty levels, from the easiest to the most demanding, so readers know which ones to choose before hitting the road.

For those who don't have a lot of practice, the first three levels are the best ones, as the last level (4) already requires more skill and physical effort.

Even so, regular cyclists or competitive athletes will find an exclusive chapter with sixteen climbing zones for specific training, where distances, incline, altitude and unevenness are properly marked.

In addition to the basic information about the routes, the user will find a QR Code (two-dimensional bar code) for each one of them, through which they will be able to access, from their mobile device, the details of the route they want to take.

“This guide is innovative. It is the first publication of its kind published in the region and comes a year after we started to develop the Cycling & Walking in the Algarve, a tourist niche related to the Nature Tourism product. With it we want to show that we have excellent conditions for the practice of cycle tourism and cycling, responsible for several million trips per year in Europe», says the president of RTA Desidério Silva.

With a circulation of 1500 copies, for free distribution in RTA's promotional actions, this publication also calls for the use of bicycles for a healthier and happier life, while taking cyclists across the region on selected roads.

The road cycling route guide is framed in the Cycling & Walking Algarve, a program to reinforce the destination in Nature Tourism with the aim of diversifying the region's offer, increasing its competitiveness and capturing tourist flows in the medium/low season.

Turismo de Portugal, the Algarve Tourism Association, the airport of Faro, municipalities and tourist entertainment companies in the region are RTA's partners in this program.
