Portimão will celebrate cultural diversity and live a week dedicated to Interculturality, from 22 to 29 May, through a program of activities aimed at promoting the sharing of experiences and coexistence between the various migrant communities, stimulating dialogue between the various cultures and sensitizing all citizens to the importance of building a fairer, more equal and more integrated society.rcultural.

The Portimão Intercultural Week has a diversified program of activities – music, dance, fashion, gastronomy, stories, among others – involving the active participation of different audiences, from the school community to various local immigrant associations (recreational and sports).

Setting the rhythm of this Week from the outset, on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 29th of May, there is the opportunity to discover other cultures, through dance, with different workshops promoted by the Academia Dança Mais- oriental dance, hip -hop and ballroom dancing and by teacher Irina, in the case of the Slavic Dances, every day at the end of the afternoon, at the Pavilhão Gimnosdesportivo de Portimão.

Participation is free, but limited to 15 participants per workshop, and those interested should register by email claim.portimão@cm-portimão.pt or by telephone 282 470 818 (from 9:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm- 17:00).

Because gastronomy promotes interculturality par excellence, at Quinta Pedagógica there will be space for Culinary Workshops during the morning of Saturday, May 27th.

At 11:00 am, with the support of Associação A CAPELA, a Russian crepes workshop will take place, in which immigrants from the East will teach participants how to cook this dish, while sharing stories about their cuisine and culture.

An hour later, there will be a chorizo ​​bread workshop, in which the Portuguese counterparts will teach immigrants the best way to make this very Portuguese delicacy. Enrollments are made on the day and place and have a symbolic price of 1 euro.

On Saturday morning, Clube Naval D. João II invites all migrants to practice canoeing and “Stand Up Paddle” and to get in close contact with these two sports and water activities. Saturday night will be especially marked by light, color and sounds from around the world, with the fashion show “Patrons of the World” - Spring-Summer 2017, which will take place at 21 pm, at Praça 00º de Maio (in front of the Palaces of the Council).

Cultures from around the world will intersect on the catwalk and in the elegance of the various fashion proposals presented by the guest brand – Purple – and by some local stores (Alma Lusa, Walk With, Mil Prendas, Alberto Oculista, Oculista Manuela , Optician Amparsol, Optician Belo Horizonte).

The organization is in charge of the Municipality of Portimão with the support of the Escola Profissional Gil Eanes - through the professional aptitude project of the student Núria Serrote -, of ACRAL, Rádio Alvor and CAPELA - Support Center for the Emigrant Population of East and Friends, being free entry.

On May 28, starting at 19 pm, a show of music, dance and culture from various corners of the world will take place in the auditorium of the Museum of Portimão entitled, precisely, “Meeting of Cultures” with the participation of the “Mixdance” Studio and the Vocal group “Pérolas do Algarve”, both from CAPELA, Grupo Coral de Portimão, Group “Estudos de Portimão”, and with singers Ana Raposa and Núria Serrote, in a moment of interculturality par excellence.

For the second consecutive year, May 29 will be the Municipal Day of Immigrants and Cultural Diversity, a date that has become part of the local agenda and aims to signal «the municipality's commitment to transforming Portimão into an intercultural society instead of a society multicultural, where there is a crossing of cultures that coexist peacefully and mutually respect each other in difference, and where one can learn and enrich through dialogue and coexistence with diversity».

From 18:00, at the Museum of Portimão (auditorium), under the motto “Sabores do Mundo” and with the participation of the Engenheiro Nuno Mergulhão Schools Group, there will be a presentation of the book “Recipes of the World” and a tasting of traditional foods from several countries.

This group, awarded by the General Directorate of Education and High Commission for Migration with the Seal of Intercultural School, Level III - Advanced, for the work developed in favor of the integration of minorities and immigrants, has been highlighted by the development of a set of activities related to the theme of interculturality.

With a significant number of students of African, American and Eastern European origin, the Engenheiro Nuno Mergulhão School Group has been creating dynamics that enable students to gain greater knowledge about the uses and customs of different regions, namely the preparation of the book “Receitas do Mundo”, which had the participation of parents and relatives of students and is presented as part of the commemoration of the Municipal Day of Immigrants and Cultural Diversity in an environment of intergenerational and intercultural interaction.

During these days, the Museum of Portimão, within the scope of its 9th anniversary, opens the exhibition “We are all Portimão”, where it presents the evolution and history of the local associative movement, from its first manifestations to the present day, with a special focus on the way in which these entities have been representing the mobilization of citizens around common goals in cultural areas sporting or social.

Emphasis will be given to citizens of the city from other countries, who have been integrating themselves into society through associations and intercultural encounters. Inclusion, citizenship, civic sense will be some of the concepts that permeate these activities and that helped to form the plural identity of Portimão today. Open until October, this exhibition is open on Tuesday from 14:30 pm to 18:10 pm, and from Wednesday to Sunday from 18:XNUMX am to XNUMX:XNUMX pm.

The Intercultural Week of Portimão arises within the scope of the Municipal Plan for the Integration of Immigrants, which, since April 2015, the Municipality has been implementing, leading a policy of inclusion to "welcome" and increasingly assumes itself as a tolerant and supportive city towards migrants of more than 60 different nationalities who live and work here.
