The silver cup, given to Portimonense Sporting Clube at the time 1923/24, by the then President of the Republic Manuel Teixeira Gomes, the trophies of Gloria or Death, a photo of the group from Sociedade Vencedora Portimonense at the Carnival of 1925, or the “table ” called Portimão, bringing together the 30 nationalities present in the municipality. These are some of the pieces of the exhibition "Todos Somos Portimão", which opens on Saturday, May 20th, at 17 pm, at the Municipal Museum of the city, a structure that celebrates its 00th anniversary on that day.

José Gameiro, scientific director of the award-winning Museum, explained to Sul Informação that the exhibition, whose finishing touches are now being put on by the team, “features photographs and other objects linked to local communities, but is not dedicated only to clubs created by Portimonians here in the municipality”.

The exhibition, purposely called «We are all Portimão», also accompanies «the associative movements of immigrants, such as the Capela association [linked to Eastern European immigrants], or others from Cape Verde, Angola or Mozambique».

"We want to show how civil society reacts, expresses itself and organizes itself, and how it brings together and welcomes all these different nationalities in our Mediterranean conviviality", reinforced José Gameiro. «Inclusion, citizenship and civic sense will be some of the concepts that permeate these activities and that help to form the plural identity of Portimão».

“The objective is to fight indifference and injustice in relation to these issues of multiculturalism, so that we stop talking about “us and the others”, as if we were not all the same”, said the scientific director of the Portimão Museum.

The exhibition, he underlined, fits «perfectly» with the theme of this International Day of Museums, marked on May 18 by ICOM, and which this year is “Museums and controversial stories: saying the unspeakable in museums”. And much of that "unspeakable" and of these "controversial stories", he stressed, can be told by local associations, of people born in Portimão or who chose this city to live.

In other words, the exhibition «All of us Portimão», which opens next Saturday and will be on display for about six months, has a special focus on how communities and associations have been representing the mobilization of citizens around common goals, in cultural, sporting and social areas. But the exhibition goes further and also gives “a special emphasis to citizens of the municipality from other countries and whose integration into the society of Portimo is also being made through associations and intercultural encounters”. In fact, diversity will continue to be celebrated in the municipality, from the 22nd to the 29th of May, with the holding of the Intercultural Week.

And since the Museum is the place of the Muses, the end of the afternoon of Saturday, the 20th, will be marked by music, poetry and theatricality, with the arrival, at 18:00, of 9 greek muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne (Goddess of Memory), protectors of the arts, sciences and letters.

This animation is promoted by students of the professional courses in Performing Arts and Strings and Keys at Escola da Bemposta and is expected to be a lot of fun.

The birthday program ends with a canning tasting promoted by Docapesca.

But Saturday, May 20th, will still be the day dedicated to 17th Portimão Photographic Race, which already has a hundred registered participants, coming from all over the country and even from neighboring Spain.

From 9:00 am to 20:00 pm, the competitors of the Photographic Race of Portimão will pass through the different checkpoints, where they will receive an indication of the 8 subjects to photograph. Through its objectives, a renewed and updated look at the municipality's territory, the activities and experiences of its people and the most unexpected aspects of its cultural and natural heritage is expected.

If you haven't registered for the Photographic Race yet, know that registration ends tomorrow, the 17th of May, and that you can do it. clicking on this link to access the registration form.
