There is Mercado de Querença next Sunday, 28th of May. Medicinal Plants are the theme of the event and the specialty of the guest curator, naturopath João Beles.
In a Market where the offer includes «vegetable products, innovative handicrafts, gastronomy, cultural entertainment, workshops, ecotourism, heritage, emotions», the program opens at 9:30 am (until 11:30 am), with a healthy breakfast with Chef Margarida Vargues, volunteer passionate about the Mediterranean Diet. The theme is how to use medicinal plants in the daily kitchen. Registration costs 5 euros and must be made to the email [email protected].
Half an hour later, at 10:00 am, the Market opens, which has as a special guest the stand of Laura Mendonça, from the Dias de Aromas brand. This company is dedicated to the production of medicinal and spice plants in the Algarve. It seeks to take advantage of the Algarve's Barrocal climate, promoting local aromatics such as Nêveda, Thyme Cabeçudo, among others, of high quality that are certified by “ECOCERT” Portugal.
This is followed by the tour and the workshop dedicated to the discovery of medicinal plants in the preservation of human health with the naturopath João Beles and with Jesus Dias, an expert in rural traditions involving gastronomic culture and popular wisdom.
This thematic tour “Discovering medicinal plants along the paths of Querença” lasts from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, costing 3 euros, while the “Workshop of medicinal plants – their identification and their therapeutic effects”, with João Beles, will be from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm (also 3 euros registration). Entries must be made to the email [email protected].
At the Market, at 11:30 am, there will be musical entertainment, with a young talent from the Algarve: his name is João Filipe Guerreiro and he is an award-winning accordionist. In 2016, in international competitions, he won 1st Prize at the PIF Castelfidardo and 2nd Prize at the Trophée Mondial de l'Accordeón (Vice-Champion of the Accordion World).
The Querença Market is promoted by the QRER Cooperative and has the support of the municipality of Loulé and the União de Freguesias de Querença, Tôr and Benafim.
