The X Algarve Wine Contest 2017 will take place on Sunday, April 9th, at the Hotel PortoBay Falésia, in Albufeira.

Under the responsibility of the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA), in partnership with the Association of Escanções de Portugal (AEP), the competition awards the best bottled Algarve wines.

The Algarve Wine Contest, which this year has registered a record number of registered producers (more than two dozen), is open to white, pink and red wines produced in the Algarve Wine Region, entitled to Protected Designation of Origin Lagos, Lagoa , Portimão and Tavira and Geographical Indication Algarve.

The wines admitted are evaluated in a blind tasting, carried out by a group of tasters made up of panels. Each panel of judges is made up of a minimum number of five judges and a president.

The president of CVA Carlos Gracias is enthusiastic about the initiative: “it is an important event, as we distinguish the quality and typicality of our wines, reinforcing our mission to consolidate the image of Algarve wine at a regional and national level and proof that the region's commitment to viticulture is a winning bet”.

At the end, the selected wines will be awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and also the Grand Gold Medal, for the best wine in the Algarve.

The prizes will be delivered during the Algarve Wine Symposium scheduled for May 11th.
