Requalifying and regularizing the entrance dredging, next to the nascent jetty, of the Tavira bar, as well as requalifying the auction of this city and dredging the boat docking area, along the bank of the Gilão river, are some of the projects of the Ministry of the Sea to Tavira this year.

In total, 2 million euros will be invested, according to José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, to the Sul Informação.

Speaking to our newspaper, this member of the Government explained that 1 million euros will be used to "improve safety at the entrance to the bar", while the other million will be used for works at the auction, dredging the docking area for boats. and nautical structures, with «organization of vessels next to the Docapesca building».

José Apolinário met this Saturday in Tavira with Jorge Botelho, president of the local Chamber, to assess “the development of the project”. For now, the works on the bar «are awarded and will be completed by September», announced the Secretary of State.

As for this intervention, which will be carried out by the company Teixeira Duarte, «the modules are being made and the shipyard is already there, next to Quatro Águas».

As for the other project, which has support from the Mar2020 program and was approved in December, "three tenders will be launched, as they are different interventions, and will be developed by the end of the year." One of the objectives is also “to complete the intervention on the riverfront that the Chamber made”, explained José Apolinário.

The works at the port of Tavira are long awaited, but didn't make it. Even now it's just about improvements, not the new port claimed by the local council.

The question of a future fishing port was also addressed by Secretary of State José Apolinário, who said that this is one of the «medium-term projects that are on the table». The intervention is part of the tasks of the new structure Portos do Algarve, which brings together the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL), Docapesca and the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve (APS), and which will define future investments.

These interventions are seen as "priority" by the Ministry of the Sea, but also "by the Chamber and fishermen associations", concluded the Secretary of State.
