uberUber is appealing to its users and driver-partners so that, this Friday, they help in sorting the donations collected during the Food Bank Against Hunger campaign, which took place over the past weekend.

As Uber explains, "the mission of the participants is simple, but its impact will be very important: donate a few minutes or hours of your time to sort and separate the collected food."

The initiative will take place between 10:00 and 17:00 and, to join, «just open the Uber application, make an UberGIVING trip request and enter “Food Bank” as a destination. The round trip will be free and will have as destination the warehouse closest to the Food Bank» which, in the case of the Algarve, is located in Faro, in the urbanization of Santo António do Alto.

For Isabel Jonet, president of the Portuguese Federation of Food Banks Against Hunger, who established this partnership with Uber, “Volunteers are the basis of all the work carried out daily by Food Banks to feed those in need. The availability of Uber to ensure free transport for volunteers who want to spend their time on December 9th, will facilitate the travel of those who live further away, and who, in this way, have the opportunity to collaborate in the preparation of food to be delivered to time of Christmas. This is an initiative that, by facilitating the exercise of volunteering, reveals a great social concern».

Rui Bento, general director of Uber Portugal, emphasizes that «the Solidarity cause of the Food Bank is an extremely important initiative to help the hundreds of thousands of families who need the support and generosity of everyone. This weekend, the response to the Food Bank's appeal was clear, with significant volumes of donations collected by thousands of volunteers across the country. We want to enable our community of users and driver-partners to have a simple way to help, donating their time to help sort and sort the collected food”

This weekend, more than 40 volunteers collected around 2129 tonnes of foodstuffs in more than 2 commercial establishments across the country, with bad weather affecting collections in the Algarve.
