From April to October next year, the city of Faro it will be directly connected to 13 German cities, with a total number of 2.592 flights being planned (427 more flights than those registered in the same period this year), operated by eight airlines.

The Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), the agency responsible for the external promotion of the Algarve as a tourist destination, sees these numbers as "very satisfactory", as they "come to validate and materialize the strategy and effort that ATA has been making. implement in this market, with a view to its sustained growth».

According to Dora Coelho, executive director of ATA, «airline companies are achieving very positive results in the Algarve, largely as a result of the cooperation and strong relations that have been established between ATA and these companies, namely through the development of joint campaigns. The Algarve is seen as a promising, sustainable and trustworthy destination, and for this reason, the commitment to the region is increasing, which makes us obviously satisfied».

The German market continues to be one of the growing markets in the Algarve, assuming, for this reason, a strategic importance for the region.

In this context, Germany emerges as the market with the greatest weight in the ATA budget for 2017, representing 19,74% of the total planned investment.

With regard to the profile of the German tourist, Dora Coelho explains that «Sol & Sea, nature tourism and also golf continue to be the main products that this visitor is looking for in our destination».

However, he adds, «we have been seeing new trends in this demand, namely a growing interest in the less popular and lesser-known Algarve and in niche products such as cycling, hiking or birdwatching. Gastronomy is also one of the factors that are increasingly appreciated by the Germans who visit us».
