Historic Area of LouléThe rates of the Municipal Property Tax in Loulé will "reach the historic low" next year. The Chamber of Loulé announced this Thursday that there will be "a sharp reduction" of this tax in 2017 to 0,3 percent, to the minimum allowed by law.

«Also with the objective of combating the desertification of the interior and attracting population to these areas, in a logic of positive differentiation, the Chamber of Loulé approved the reduction of the IMI rate by 30% in the parishes of Alte, Ameixial, Salir and União de Freguesias Querença, Tôr and Benafim, burdening to a lesser extent those who want to settle in these territorial areas», announced the autarchy.

The benefits do not stop there and families also benefit. "Since the State Budget for 2016 continued with the possibility for municipalities to apply a reduction in the IMI rate for families with dependents and with tax residency in the Municipality, in the case of property intended for permanent housing, it was decided by Chamber set the reduction of 20, 40 and 70 euros, depending on whether there is one, two, three or more dependents, respectively», he added.

This decision by the municipal government of Loulé, led by socialist Vítor Aleixo, is the culmination of a process of gradual reduction of this tax that began in 2014. Comparing the 2017 rate with that of 2013, "there was a 25% reduction" in the amount of this fee.

With regard to other taxes, namely the percentage of the IRS of their citizens that the City Councils have the right to claim (if they don't, the taxpayer is the one who wins) and the Municipal Surcharge, there are also news.

The IRS rate will be set at 2,5 percent, that is, half of the 5 percent to which the municipality is entitled. With regard to the spill, it will be extinguished, «in order to attract more investment to the municipality and giving a positive signal to businessmen, intending in this way to stimulate the creation of more jobs in this municipality».

"All these reductions in tax to be applied in 2017 mean an estimated value of 10 million euros in revenue which the city will do without for the benefit of its citizens", stressed the City Council of Loulé.
