Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Municipal Library - CMLoulé - MiraLuísa Martins will present her book «Contributions to the History of Algarvian Food, from the Minutes of the Councilors of the Municipality of Loulé (1384-1488)», next Friday, October 7th, at 21 pm, at the Library of Loulé, in another session of the «Open Books» initiative.

The work is the result of an investigation carried out from the analysis of the municipal council minutes of Loulé, over a period of 104 years.

Luísa Martins compiles and interprets a set of data that help to clarify the role that food production, in the late medieval period, played in the daily life of the Loulé population and demonstrates how the predominant food model may have been an antecedent of the current Mediterranean diet .

It was, in fact, in the Mediterranean Diet Fair, on the 2nd of September, that this work was also presented.

«This book also allows us to understand the importance of the production and marketing of food in the context of the economy and society, in its cultural and religious context, as well as in the public management policy of a medieval municipality, and to address social tensions around food , which can be seen in some situations reported in the minutes of the council», says the Câmara de Loulé.

The presentation of the work is in charge of Natércia Magalhães, from the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, and admission is free.
