Front Cover - FDM BookThe Regional Directorate of Culture is going to launch the book “Contributos to the history of food in the Algarve”, by Luísa Martins, on September 2nd, at 18 pm, at the Clube de Tavira. The presentation will be given by Natércia Magalhães.

«The study of written memory in the council of Loulé's minutes of 1384 to 1488 that Luísa Martins brings us, has revealed a very rich heritage, which demonstrates how this basic basic need for our livelihood, determined confrontations and political decisions». says the Regional Directorate of Culture.

With the consecration of the Mediterranean Diet as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, food has gained special attention in the region and in the country.

«The past of the Algarve has been constructed based on the investigation of available historical documentation and its study. This new edition makes a new contribution to the wide dissemination of this knowledge», adds the Regional Directorate of Culture.

The book launch is integrated in the Mediterranean Diet Fair, which runs from the 1st to the 4th of September.

In addition to the institutional presence at the Fair and the launch of this book, the Regional Directorate of Culture will organize during the event daily workshops on fine sweets from Lagos, a delicacy that is in the process of inventorying and registering in the national inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

These workshops are promoted by the Barlavento Artisans Association.
