Young accordionists from the Algarve awarded prizes at the National Accordion and Portuguese Guitar Trophy

Twelve Algarve students of professor Nelson Conceição won several categories at the 6th National Accordion and Portuguese Guitar Trophy, which took place in Santarém, on Saturday, May 4th.

In addition to them, Rafael Calão, a student of professor Anabela Silva at the Olhão Conservatory, won 1st Prize in the Beginners category.

This event, which had several dozen participants, was organized by the Santarém Music Conservatory and had the support of the Accordion Association of Portugal and Acordeonata, among others.

It included a panel of judges from several countries (Portugal, Spain, Italy and Lithuania) and recognized worldwide in the practice and development of the accordion, an instrument strongly rooted in Portugal.

The Algarve was well represented through several young people who even won several categories in the competition.

The participation of Algarve students was supported by the Garvefole Accordion Association, based in Loulé, which was supported by the Loulé City Council, São Clemente Parish Council, CCDR Algarve – Culture Unit.
