The municipality of Faro is already "in the interview phase" with a view to hiring 63 new employees, namely 56 new operational assistants and 7 animators in the area of ​​support for educational action, a process that should be completed in 2016.

Second revealed to Sul Informação the mayor of Faro Rogério Bacalhau, this measure will solve the problem of lack of personnel in 1st cycle schools and pre-school, in the municipality, and «end once and for all with the insertion contracts», the alternative found by the municipality of Faro to face the shortages.

This school year, there will still be staff in schools under these contracts, which aim to temporarily occupy people who are registered with the unemployment fund. «We have already made the request to the Employment Center of Faro, in the sense of hiring people who can replace those whose contract ends now at the end of the month», according to the mayor from Farense.

«There was a great adhesion to the contest that we launched. We had about 500 applications, so the process is still ongoing. I'm counting on having closed it by the end of the year», assured Rogério Bacalhau.

With the entry of 63 new employees, who now belong to the Chamber's staff, the EB1 schools, managed by the municipality, it is no longer necessary to ask for extra help from the Employment Centre.

This measure is included in a set of investments that the City Council is carrying out in schools in the municipality, under the program Faro Requalify II, for which approximately 4 million euros were channeled, carried over from the 2015 financial year..

School Pavilion Afonso III_3In schools, the works to be carried out, which include painting the pavilion at EB 2, 3 Poeta Emiliano da Costa, replacing windows and other improvements at the Carmo schools and installing several new kitchen equipment, among others, will cost around 700 thousand euros and is expected to be completed before 2017.

Excluded from these accounts is the requalification of the Dom Afonso III School Pavilion, thebudgeted at 150 thousand euros which is already underway and which should only be ready by the end of October, due to a delay related to the replacement of the infrastructure floor.

According to the Chamber of Faro, the global investment in education will be close to 2 million euros. «Only in social support for the most needy students, the municipality will spend, this academic year, around 1,3 million euros. This investment includes meals (breakfast and lunch), with a total value of 639 thousand euros, school transport for around 950 students (535 thousand euros) and also 85 thousand euros for school manuals and teaching material for grades A and B». according to the municipality of Faro.

«In the same way, the municipal scholarship program will be maintained this year, which will allow 16 needy families in the municipality to continue investing in their children's education. These grants are intended for students who attend secondary or higher education and are conditional on being residents in the municipality for more than 5 years. The total amount that the Municipality of Faro should invest in this program amounts to 48 thousand euros which represents a monthly value of 2/5 of the national minimum wage for each of the scholarship holders», concluded the Chamber of Faro.
