dana's beachThe Almargem Association argues that the Odeceixe-Vilamoura Coastal Waterfront Planning Program should not be approved as presented for public discussion, which ends today, but rather be “the target of an in-depth and fully participated review process”.

«Public interests appear in the POOC often subordinated to private interests, the safeguarding of natural resources and values is often called into question through a biased technocratic vision and local plans, even those that clearly conflict with the basic principles of sustainable spatial planning, are carefully respected'.

Almargem adds that the plan “is wounded by serious inaccuracies, contradictions and ambiguities”.

Among the POOC's flaws, the association points out the «lack of clarity in the demarcation of the different classes of spaces, with incomprehensible omission or deviation of the safeguard strips in numerous places», the «detailed treatment of some beach areas, in contrast to others beach areas and most of the remaining coastline, where the zoning becomes difficult to understand", and the "proposals for the demolition of buildings, located outside any safeguard strip".

The association also criticizes "the proposals for the demolition of buildings located on safeguard strips, completely ignoring the fact that, for many other buildings under the same conditions, no type of intervention is foreseen", the "maintaining the availability of oceanic areas of sedimentary loan, without presenting data proving a reduced environmental impact of the dredging to be carried out in these areas", as well as the "persistence in the defense of the artificial feeding processes of beaches as a basic instrument for the management of the coastline".

For Almargem, the “paradoxical low use foreseen for the sand reserves stored in the oceanic sedimentary loan areas are also faults of the POOC, which raises the hypothesis that other beaches, purposely not mentioned in the plan, will become the target of feeding interventions artificial".

As for Praia de Dona Ana, Almargem points out the «inability to recognize the crime perpetrated in 2015» in that bathing area, «without critically commenting on the intervention or presenting a proposal to reverse the situation through the demolition of the illegal dam built there».

Also the target of criticism is the proposed solution for Monte Clérigo (Aljezur), as the POOC predicts "the inexplicable increase in cargo capacity and car parking capacity on the beach", "as opposed to the demolitions without criteria proposed therein, opening the doors to an even more massive use of this beach, possibly associated with the proposed construction of a tourist mega-enterprise».

Finally, criticism is made of the «careful and cynical defense of the Detail Plan of Praia Grande (Silves), with a proposal to invest public money in the creation of a Private Protected Area that will only benefit the companies involved in this environmental crime. the neighbor".
