Transpolvo ProjectOdemira will host the Southwest Alentejo Octopus Gastronomic Week between 6 and 12 June. The initiative takes place in several restaurants in the municipality, in the towns of Almograve, Boavista dos Pinheiros, Longueira, Odemira, Vila Nova de Milfontes and Zambujeira do Mar.

Also at the FEI~TUR – National Sports and Nature Tourism Fair, which takes place in Vila Nova de Milfontes, between the 10th and 12th of June, the octopus will also be present.

There will be several octopus dishes available on the menus of the restaurants “Planície” and “O Bernardo” (in Boavista dos Pinheiros), “O Lavrador” (in Almograve), “O Josué” and “João da Longueira” (Longueira), “ Oasis” (Praia Furnas-Rio, in the Parish of Longueira/Almograve), “Fonte Férrea”, “O Tarro” and “O Escondidinho do Poço” (in Odemira), “Mar e Sol”, “Tasca do Celso”, “ Taberna do Gil Restaurante Cervejaria” and “Porto das Barcas” (in Vila Nova de Milfontes), “Nelmar”, “Sacas” and “I” brewery (in Zambujeira do Mar).

Octopus cataplana, octopus bolhão-pato, octopus rice, octopus à lagareiro, octopus salad, octopus in a frying pan with garlic, fried octopus, grilled octopus, sautéed octopus, octopus feijoada, octopus stew, or pataniscas are some of them of the delicacies that can be tasted in this Gastronomic Week.

«The specificity of the habitat combined with the diversity of food gives the octopus of the Southwest Alentejo unique organoleptic characteristics in terms of texture and flavor, making it one of the most appreciated and sought after products», says the Chamber of Odemira.

With this initiative, the local authority «intends to value one of the best products on the Odemirense coast: octopuses caught in the region, of enormous quality and with a wide range of gastronomic uses».
