Environment and Tourism symposium program 9jun2016“The preservation of natural resources as a means of sustainable tourism” is the theme of the colloquium that the Municipality of Odemira will promote this Thursday, June 9th, at 15 pm, at the Rural Tourism Unit “Herdade do Freixial” , near Vila Nova de Milfontes.

This initiative is associated with the realization of FEI~TUR – National Sports and Nature Tourism Fair, which takes place between the 10th and 12th of June, next to Praia da Franquia, in Vila Nova de Milfontes.

Leonor Picão, coordinator of the Technical Submission of Nature and Outdoor Tourism, from Turismo de Portugal, will speak on “Standardization and its contribution to Sustainability in Nature Tourism”, Marta Cabral, executive director of the Rota Vicentina Association, will address the topic “Resources, Tourism and Sustainability: the role of the Community”, Paulo do Carmo, president of Quercus' Regional Center for Coastal Alentejo, will speak about “Sustainable Tourism”, while Paula Sarmento, president of the Board of Directors of ICNF – Institute for Nature Conservation and das Florestas, will present the project “Natural.Pt, Distinguir and promote what makes us different”.

The moderation will be in charge of Elisabete Rodrigues, newspaper director Sul Informação, in a colloquium that will be attended by the mayor of Odemira, José Alberto Guerreiro.

«In a county where tourism is one of the main economic activities and where a large part of the territorial area is inserted in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina and in the Natura 2000 network, it is essential to reconcile environmental preservation and growing tourist demand, in a logic of balance and sustainability», stresses the Chamber of Odemira, which it organizes.
