A community sardine, taverns and musical entertainment will help the town of Montenegro to celebrate the 19th anniversary of its elevation to Parish, on the 24th and 25th of June.
An event organized by the local Parish Council that has a solidary aspect, since in exchange for sardine dishes, the symbolic delivery of canned goods will be requested, food items that will be redistributed to needy families.
This sardine, scheduled for Saturday, June 25, at 19 pm, is already a hallmark of the Freguesia do Montenegro festival. In addition to raising food items (one canned per dish of sardines), a monetary donation will also be raised for the Associação Solidariedade Sociocultural de Montenegro.
But the party starts a day before, with the entertainment concentrated on Júlio Dinis street, where taverns will be installed, whose recipe in the beverage sector, namely beer, will revert to the benefit of Grupo Motard de Montenegro. In the same place, a space dedicated to associations will be installed, where they will be able to present an exhibition of the activities they developed during the last year.
At the same time, an entertainment program will be guaranteed, starting on Friday, the 24th, at 20:30 pm, with a parade by the Popular Marches of the Parish of Bordeira, followed by the performance of the Algarve band Íris.
On Saturday, the venue opens at 19 pm for the solidarity sardine and the children's fashion show 'ABC Models'. From 00 pm onwards, a folklore festival will take place with the participation of the Amigos do Montenegro Folklore and Ethnographic Group, the Vouga Region Folklore Group, the Nazaré Ethnographic Group and the Folklore Group Os Camponeses de Santana do Mato.
For the president of the Parish Council of Montenegro Steven Sousa Piedade, this party provides an "excellent opportunity to strengthen support for resident families who most need help."
Associating a social aspect to the event also allows stimulating the activity of associations that develop «meritorious work for the benefit of the parish», he added.
The celebrations of the 19th anniversary of the elevation of Montenegro to a parish are organized by the Junta in partnership with the Motard Group of Montenegro and the Associação Amigos de Montenegro.
