snail_posterThe International Caracol Festival returns to animate Castro Marim between 1 and 3 July, at Colina do Revelim in St. António. In addition to Algarve and national snail recipes, Spanish, French and Moroccan cuisines will also be present at the event with their ways of cooking this delicacy.

In addition to gastronomy, the festival «adds a rich and diversified cultural and musical scene and a lot of regional sweets, in addition to the stunning and privileged view that the Revelim de St. António offers over the territory, namely over the Guadiana River and the Nature Reserve do Sapal de Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António», says the Chamber of Castro Marim.

On Friday, the 1st, the theater play “O Caracol Apaixonado” is presented at the festival, by the theater library of the Castro Marim Schools Group, inspired by the book of the same name, by writer Sérgio Mendes and illustrator Elias Gato, winners of the Pingo Doce Children's Literature Award.

The municipality of Castro Marim explains that Elias Gato, «also the author of the poster that promotes the event this year, grew up in Castro Marim, where he soon discovered a taste for illustration and cartoon. This passion made him continue his studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, where he graduated in Painting, and then at the Institute of Education, where he became a professor of Visual Arts».

Also for Friday, concerts are scheduled with the “Estudantina Universitária de Coimbra” (19:00), António Caixeiro and the “fadas” of Cante Alentejano (20:30) and, finally, the Banda Musical Castromarinense (22:30).

On the second day, July 2, the “Flor de Sal” (Flor de Sal) will come on stage (20:30), a duo composed of Zé Francisco and Ana Figueiras. According to the Chamber of Castro Marim, «his music brings us a fresh and inspiring interpretation, not only of traditional Portuguese music, but also of the miscellany of flavors that result in the fusion of different genres of music in the world».

At 22 pm, the concert of the Spanish singer “Martirio” is scheduled, «one of the most original interpreters of the Spanish musical scene in the 00s, today with a rich musical repertoire, which includes hits such as “Sevillanas de los bloques (Estoy atacá) ».

On Sunday, July 3rd, street entertainment will be in charge of the group “Us Sai de Gatas” (18:30 pm), leaving the group “Boémia” (21:30 pm) with the closing of another edition of the International Caracol Festival, « in a performance that brings the natural evolution of Portuguese popular music and the reflection of a set of influences, such as Fausto Bordalo Dias, Zeca Afonso, Chico Buarque, among others», explains the municipality of Castromarinense.

«To affirm Castro Marim as a destination for the best snails in the Algarve and to promote traditional products, Mediterranean cuisine and culture is the main objective of the municipality with the International Caracol Festival», concludes the Municipality.
