fuseta1“Barra da Fuzeta – what solution?” is the question that launches the beginning of another edition of the “Jornadas do Bloco”, organized by the Municipal Coordinator of Olhão of the Left Bloc, scheduled for Saturday, May 14, at 16 pm, in the multipurpose room of the Fuzeta Parish Council .

The initiative counts with the participation of João Vasconcelos, deputy of the Bloc elected by the Algarve, and Domingos Terramoto, Municipal deputy of the Bloc in Olhão and member of the local Parish Council.

In mid-April of this year, the Left Block presented to the Assembly of the Republic a Draft Resolution that recommends that the Government prioritize dredging in the Fuzeta dam as a work included in the dredging program of Sociedade Polis Litoral Ria Formosa.

In their draft Resolution, the Bloc's parliamentarians warn of the «siltation of the current bar that serves the fishing community of Fuzeta, a situation that strongly affects the regular activity of fishermen, who have to wait for the mid-tide to enter and leave the bar, translating into a substantial reduction in the income of Fuzeta fishermen, to which is added the permanent threat to their lives, given the danger of the crossing».

BE's parliamentary initiative recommends prioritizing the dredging of the Fuzeta dam as a work included in the dredging program of the Sociedade Polis Litoral Ria Formosa and that it be considered the fixation of the dam, in the place where nature opened it in 2010, with recourse to use of geotextile sleeves.

Also recently, in February of this year, the Municipal Assembly of Olhão unanimously approved the motion “For the dredging of the Fuzeta dam”, whose deliberation follows in the same direction as the aforementioned Draft Resolution.

However, last week, during a hearing at the Committee on Agriculture and Sea, in the Assembly of the Republic, the Secretary of State for Fisheries announced that Fuzeta is one of the fishing ports for which dredging is planned.

Responding to a question from the Algarve deputy José Carlos Barros (PSD), Secretary of State José Apolinário said that the public tender for dredging in Fuzeta is being prepared and that these “have to do with a Polis project”.
