The Minister of the Sea and the Secretary of State for Fisheries announced, in response to a question posed by the Algarve deputy José Carlos Barros, that Fuzeta is one of the fishing ports for which dredging is planned. The question was asked during the hearing at the Commission on Agriculture and Sea, which took place this week in the Assembly of the Republic.
The work will be the responsibility of Sociedade Polis Litoral Ria Formosa and is in the launch phase of a public tender.
Minister Ana Paula Vitorino began by making a generic reference to the various dredging and silting actions that are planned to be carried out this year in various fishing ports in the country, also referring generically to works in the Algarve.
Faced with the question of the Algarve parliamentarian, on which interventions would concretely advance in the Algarve, José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, answered that the public tender for dredging in Fuzeta was being prepared and that these «they have to do with a Polis project».
In statements to the Sul Informação, deputy José Carlos Barros, elected by the PSD, highlighted the importance of this announcement, «given the relevance of the problems (which are historical…) related to the silting of the bar and the navigation channel, both from the point of view of safety in the passage of the bar as well as the exercise of the activity by the fishing community local” and also “taking into account the controversy (political, but above all technical) that has been taking place in recent years regarding the fixation of the bar and the preferential location of the bar”.
The Dredging Plan that has been implemented in Ria Formosa by Sociedade Polis, for an amount of around 7,5 million euros, has a financial framework within the community framework of POSEUR – Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources.
