The 2014 red «Al-Ria Reserva», from Casa Santos Lima – Companhia das Vinhas, from Tavira, was the big winner of the ninth edition of the Algarve Wine Contest, with the jury awarding it the Great Gold Medal for the “Best Wine in the Algarve”.
With the Gold Medal, the 2015 rosé «Alvor Mitto» from Quinta do Morgado da Torre (Portimão) and the 2012 red «Marquês dos Vales DUO Petit Verdot & Touriga Nacional» from Quinta dos Vales (Lagoa) were awarded .
In all, the competition's jury, formed by national sommelier specialists, awarded medals to 25 of the 81 wines in the competition, which represented 20 producers in the region, a record number of participation.
According to Carlos Gracias, president of Algarve Wine Commission, this edition marked a turning point. "Considering the significant participation of producers and the number of samples in the competition, associated with the high scores obtained by the wines in the tasting (all above 80 points) we believe that our wines have reached a level of excellence and will be highly valued by consumers" .
The Algarve Wines Contest, promoted by the Algarve Wine Commission, in partnership with the Portuguese Sommelier Association and the Lagoa City Council, took place last Monday at the Convento de São José, and was open to white and rosé wines. and reds.
The competition was visited by national and regional journalists, who on Monday participated in a press visit, namely by the reporter from the Sul Informação, who account of the increase in the general quality of the Algarve wines.
The awards will be delivered at a later ceremony, on the occasion of Fatacil 2016, in August.
