PortimonensexOlhanense - Nelson Inacio (3)Portimonense fought back, but couldn't make (even more) history, in the League Cup. The Algarvians went to Madeira to play in the semi-finals of this competition and ended up defeated by 3-1, at the “Caldeirão” dos Barreiros, the Estádio do Marítimo. Marítimo's victory is more justified in the first part of the match, since in the second half the Algarve was the most dangerous, although without being able to change their luck.

Portimonense entered the game well and scored after 5 minutes, through Pires. Marítimo, playing at home, “shocked up” and went over to the Portimão team. An attack that resulted in a goal after 17 minutes, when Edgar Costa restored the equality.

Marítimo did not take his foot off the accelerator and showed a desire to move ahead of the marker as quickly as possible, which ended up happening in the 31st minute. Portimonense's defense opened a crater that left Dyego Sousa isolated against goalkeeper Carlos Henriques. The Madeira forward tried for the hat and his teammate Éber Bessa completed the comeback. Portimonense players complained offside, but the referee didn't point out.

Until they retired to the dressing room, the Portimão players still suffered some chills, namely a ball on the post, in a move in which the visitors' defense was in big trouble.

The halftime fell well to Portimonense, who came to the second half more calm and enlightened, in an attempt to change the course of the game. The Algarvians tried to have more ball and launch poisonous attacks, but in the final moment, the ball ended up not entering. With a little more than half an hour to go before the final whistle, the Algarvians managed to touch the opponent to the ropes and were almost not happy.

Portimonense did not score, despite many efforts, and ended up suffering the third, when it was 3 minutes after the 90. A quick counterattack by Marítimo was concluded with a goal, by Babá.

Portimonense will not, in this way, continue to make history in this competition. The Algarve team was the first of the II League to reach the semi-final of the League Cup and was very close to reaching the final. For the year there's more…
