Walking Festival PlumThere are many people eagerly awaiting the opportunity to enroll in the initiatives that the Ameixial Walking Festival will promote. They will only have to wait until Friday, the day on which the registration period will open for the many activities that will take place between the 22nd and 25th of April.

The Walking Festival Ameixial, which sets up its base in the village that gives it its name, should attract «several hundreds of participants» to the interior of the Algarve, which in the case of the town of Loulé, is equivalent to saying that the event «triples the population of the village ».

amexial_walking festival_1The festival has been growing at all levels, with emphasis on its reach and notoriety, which means that, soon after talking about the 4th edition, many have shown interest in registering. “We have been receiving many emails asking when registration opens”, revealed João Ministro, from the company ProActiveTur, one of the many entities that are part of the festival's organizing committee.

A wait that has its days numbered, since from March 4th those interested will be able to register online, on the event's new website, which will also be launched on the same day.

On Friday, the promoters of the Walking Festival Ameixial (WFA) will be at the Lisbon Tourism Exchange, where they will make the first official presentation of the 2016 edition and will even offer gifts, particularly useful for those who like to walk along paths and trails , to enjoy nature and heritage.

Anyone who attends the presentation to be made at the BTL Algarve Tourism stand, between 14:15 pm and 14:45 pm, will not only learn the details of the WFA program, but will also be able to walk outside the premises of the Lisbon International Fair (FIL ) with a Kit to be drawn by the festival organizers, consisting of a TASA project staff, an official event t-shirt and Energéticas de Querença (BEQ) bars.

News to be announced join those that the Sul Informação, media partner of the festival, has already said, following a conversation he had with Bruno Rodrigues, from Cooperativa Qrer, created under the Querença project and who promotes the event with the Chamber of Loulé, Pedro Barros, one of those responsible for the Estela Project, who studies Sudoeste Writing, and businessman João Ministro.

On that occasion, it became known that the 2016 edition of the WFA will have one more day than the previous ones, will have more walks and activities and will have a new offer around Escrita do Sudoeste, heritage value of the territory hosting the event.

The possibility of pre-booking in restaurants was also announced, to guarantee meals on the days of the festival, as the response from the village of Ameixial, used to less clientele, is limited. Reservations can be made on the festival's new website, which will also offer “detailed descriptions of the routes and information on accommodation”.

Walking Festival PlumDays before the presentation of the event in Lisbon, João Ministro lifted the veil a little more over the 2016 edition. «We will have an activity promoted by Sara Navarro, who bakes clay according to the techniques used in the Iron Age. We will have, on one of the nights, a big fire, where the pottery pieces will be baked. We will also have the presence of an international journalist, who works for an agency specialized in hiking», he revealed.

On the other hand, there will be a strong commitment to the dissemination of Glamping, «a type of camping, very natural, in which different tents are used, such as the Mongolian Yurts and others», which could be an opportunity for Algarve nature tourism companies . «We will have two Glamping companies present, one from Serra da Estrela and the other from Alentejo», announced the Algarve businessman.

The 4th Ameixial Hiking Festival is an initiative of the Municipality of Loulé and the QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, organized by Proactivetur and Project ESTELA, with the partnership of the Parish Council of Ameixial, of the Group Desportivo de Ameixial, from the Directorate General for Cultural Heritage, from the Municipal Museum of Loulé and the newspaper Sul Informação. The initiative also has the support of the Algarve Tourism Region.
