20 airport FaroIf 2015 was a good year for Algarve tourism, 2016 promises to be even better. Carlos Luís, who took office yesterday afternoon as president of the Algarve Tourism Association, for a new term, says he has indicators that, for the year, the number of flights to the region and reservations will increase.

In statements to the Sul Informação, on the sidelines of taking possession of the ATA's new corporate bodies, Carlos Luís added that «the expectation we have is for a year better than 2015. We have indicators that tell us that, both the number of flights to the Algarve, and the hiring that already exists on the part of the hotel industry and agents of travel, has a very reasonable increase».

The French and Russian markets are those that Carlos Luís believes may have the most considerable growth in 2016. «The French market rose last year. It is a market closely linked to North Africa, which the French no longer find so safe, and are turning to the Algarve. This year was dedicated to promoting the region in the French market and I am convinced that we will continue to grow”.

Regarding the Russian market, the president of ATA considers that «emerging markets are a bet and we should not rely on them, in principle, for numbers, but we have the Russian market, which I am convinced will rise, also due to problems with Turkey, which is the biggest destination for Russians. This market will increase, but it can only be noticed for a few luxury units, and by the agents that have this market».

The German market will also deserve a bet by ATA, which is responsible for promoting the Algarve abroad. “In Germany we have a very small market share, we have 1%, and there is potential to rise, because it is a country with 84 million inhabitants”, he concluded.
