The rehabilitation of the Cine-Teatro António Pinheiro may proceed in 2016. The mayor of Tavira hopes to invest five million euros in the site, and for that, he will apply for community funds.
In an interview with Sul Informação, Jorge Botelho added that he hopes “to advance with the competition for the rehabilitation of the Cine-Teatro for the year, if there is an open and approved application. This is a challenge we have».
The space needs an investment of five million euros, which the mayor wants "to see partially financed by community funds".
The projects, these, are ready, now that the money arrives. «We are waiting for the application to open, so that we can rehabilitate the only theater space that is not rehabilitated in the Algarve. Tavira needs to have a space like this, with a 350-seat auditorium».
The rehabilitation of the Cine-Teatro António Pinheiro is, in fact, a work that has long been considered, but the lack of funds has delayed it. The rehabilitation of this space was even the most voted proposal by the Tavirense population in the 2013 Participatory Budget, but, for lack of money, it did not advance.
