Vaso_Tavira_2015The beautiful and somewhat mysterious “O Vaso de Tavira” will be made known this Saturday, November 21st, at 10:30 am, in a tour commented by the archaeologist Sandra Cavaco, in the Islamic Nucleus of the Municipal Museum of Tavira, where this piece is on display.

The Vaso de Tavira, which even now was exhibited at the Louvre Museum due to its importance and originality, it is considered “one of the most significant testimonies of the Islamic past of the city and country and presents a set of human and animal figures that seem to tell a story”.

With this meeting with the archaeologist, the objective is «unravel the narrative(s) hidden behind the vase, addressing issues such as the functionality of the piece and the symbolism of the elements that make it up, exposing the interpretations of various archaeologists about this surprising object».

The Tavira VaseThe commented visit is part of the initiative "Walks in the history of Tavira", which aims to make known the past of the city, the urban landscape, monuments and historical characters, as well as raising awareness of the need to protect and enhance the heritage heritage.

The activity, with free and mandatory registration, is intended for a maximum number of 30 participants.
