The best karting drivers in the world, including the Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, a former Formula 1 driver, will participate, from November 8th to 14th, in the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, which will take place at the Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão.
It is the biggest karting event in the world and the biggest ever organized in Portugal.
These Rotax finals are a huge and important event for the Algarve region. They represent «approximately 800 to 1000 hotel rooms for an average period of one week, and around 2000 foreigners from more than 50 countries will stay in the Portimão area during the event's date».
An economic study cited by the organization predicts that this event could bring a turnover to the region in the order of 4 million euros.
The Portimão runway will host, for this 16th edition of the Rotax Grand Finals, the 360 riders from more than 50 countries on various continents, who will fight for a world title in the six categories.
One of the most famous names that will be part of this test is really Rubens Barrichello, who qualified for his country in the DD2 category.
“We are sure that we will see very emotional races and, in particular, at DD2, where the participants will want to 'measure forces' with the experienced Barrichello,” says Helmut Voglsam, director of the department of karting engines at Rotax.
“This event, which is the most international in the world of karting, will allow the public to attend a competition where the best karting drivers in the world are present. Join us and feel the atmosphere and competitive spirit of the Rotax world.”
In addition to the 288 qualified riders in the Junior, Max DD2 and DD2 Master categories through Rotax championships organized around the world, this race will also have the presence of 72 of the youngest riders participating in the Rotax Max Challenge, riders who will have the opportunity to take part of this great international event. The event will be the RMC Grand Festival for the categories Rotax 125 Micro MAX (7-10 years) and Rotax 125 Mini MAX (1013 years).
The Rotax MAX Challenge (RMC) is a championship, promoted and organized by BRP and Rotax kart engine distributors representing more than 100 countries.
It is organized under the aegis of the CIK/FIA and, consequently, of the national federations. The RMC is a championship organized in more than 60 countries, with the concept of a single engine, only Rotax engines sealed by the distributor network being authorized to participate.
O Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals it has the concept even more comprehensive, as the organization provides all karts, which are the same in each category for all participants and all the necessary material (tools, tires, gasoline, etc).
