Yesterday, on its first day, the Sardine Festival attracted around 25 thousand people to the riverside area of Portimão. The concert by Tony Carreira/Festa Continente was one of the highlights of what the Câmara de Portimão says is «one of the biggest floods ever».
The affluence data were confirmed, according to the municipality, by the PSP.
«The characteristic aroma of grilled sardines that was felt next to the Old Fish auction at the sardine sales points on bread and in the participating restaurants proved that good sardines are eaten in Portimão, and thousands of visitors were able to delight in the riverside zone», adds the City Council.
Tonight, the band Volume2dois takes to the stage of the festival. Tomorrow is Tiago Bettencourt's day, on Saturday Diogo Piçarra performs, and on August 16th, António Zambujo is the artist chosen to cheer up sardine lovers.
O Sardine Festival runs until Sunday in the riverside area of Portimão and «it is one of the main visiting cards of the municipality and pays homage to the roots of the local society, closely linked to fishing and the canning industry».
