Guadeloupe Jazz ConcertFine arts and jazz meet on Saturday, August 22, at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in Raposeira (Vila do Bispo), for another activity integrated in DiVaM, the program for the Promotion and Valorization of Monuments in the Algarve.

Thus, at 17:00 pm, the exhibition “No Nosso Rasto” by Ernesto Ceriz will open, followed at 17:30 pm by a jazz concert by Hilaria Kramer (trumpet) and João Madeira (double bass).

Both initiatives have the DiVaM seal, but are organized by Tertúlia- Associação Sócio Cultural de Aljezur, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

The exhibition is part of the cycle of contemporary art exhibitions «2 or 3×7», taking place at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, from April to October, in which seven plastic artists – through drawing, painting, sculpture and/ or installation – are invited to intervene temporarily in this space.

Ernesto CerizErnesto Ceriz has always recognized in the process of artistic creation the great way of accessing himself and the other, in a language that builds on what is below and beyond what is conscious. And «it is in the work of building the image that, by being able to externalize what is personal and interior to us, we open avenues of access to dialogue with the other», stresses DR Cultura, in a press release.

Hilaria Kramer is a well-known trumpeter on the Swiss jazz circuits and, in general, in German-speaking countries, but little known in Portugal.

He has been giving concerts in chapels and hermitages in southern Switzerland. In 2014, he won the award for best jazz musician in Switzerland (Suiss Jazz Award).

João Madeira studied double bass from an early age, starting his studies in classical school and later embarking on the development of improvisation with this instrument, through the practice of jazz and various ethnic languages around the world.

He composes his own music, performs solo and has also regularly collaborated with theater and film.

«On our trail»

Ernesto Ceriz says: «We recognize, in our artistic creation process, certain characteristics that, repeating themselves in essence, can be defined as style. It consists of a process of image construction based not on presence but on absence, therefore, its objective is not the mimetic representational construction.

Starting from the premise that everything that is absent was present, it left a trace, a trace, a clue. This track becomes the target of a conjectural work in which we try to invoke this absent body. Whence may result something that is more of the realm of the aura than of the object, more of the soul than of the body.

A bit like the shroud, only signs became visible, brief traces of an entity that cannot be revealed to us, insinuates itself even more strongly because it escapes us in its entirety».
