The Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve has opened applications for three new courses in the field of Jazz and modern music, which will start in the 2015/2016 school year. The courses are the result of a partnership with ETIC Algarve.
The initiative is part of the activities program of EJMMA – School of Jazz and Modern Music of the Algarve da OJA. This School has been in operation since last September in the municipality of Lagoa, due to the existence of the OJA Artistic Residence in that city.
These new courses are, according to OJA, «innovative in the Algarve due to the pedagogy and proximity of teaching used, as well as the creative spirit promoted by ETIC Algarve» and have some musicians from OJA and some renowned professionals from the national jazz scene, coming from various parts of the country, in its panel of trainers.
The Instrumentalist courses – Initiation or Improvement – both with a duration of 1 year, are intended for students with training from secondary education or career and professional experience relevant to the course.
The Jazz and Modern Music course lasts for 2 years and is also aimed at students with training from secondary education or relevant career and professional experience. This course «intends to enable students to prepare arrangements and lead musical projects, also preparing them for entry into academic studies».
Admission is preceded by a personal interview, and there are only 16 places per course. These courses also award credits for the European system of accumulation and transfer of credits – ECTS.
These formations “promise to be eclectic, not restricting teaching to a single musical style but covering the entire vast universe of Music. The sessions will be held at the premises of ETIC Algarve and at the Box Music sound studio in Faro».
