Tobitoo sailboat ran aground off Armona IslandThe two crew members of a sailboat that ran aground this Thursday night in front of Ilha da Armona, in Olhão, were rescued by the Navy. The occupants ofa vessel «Tobitoo», two 61 and 68-year-old Dutchmen, will never have been in danger.

The accident will have occurred after the boat was left without an engine. The boat ended up getting stuck and its crew cast the iron "just in case" and asked for help.

According to the Portuguese Navy, the alert was given, via radio, at around 22:30 pm, by the sailboat's crew. Upon arrival at the scene, the rescue teams verified that there were no risks for the crew, who were, even so, rescued and taken ashore.

The same happened, hours later, with the sailboat. «As the tide was low, it was impossible to remove the sailboat from the site, so a watchful eye was kept until close to 5 o'clock, when the tide was at high tide and it was possible to unground the sailboat and take it to deeper waters, having been towed later to the port of Olhão», describes the Navy.

The operation, coordinated by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center in conjunction with the Captain of the port of Olhão, involved the Maritime Police boat “Tornado” and the lifeboat of the Instituto de Socorros a Náufragos SR-37.
