The Municipality of Odemira is developing the process of creating Social Judges for the Court of Odemira, in compliance with the legislation in force, which determines the intervention of a panel of judges, composed of the Judge of Law and two Social Judges, in the debate in proceedings for the promotion and protection of children and young people at risk.
The Law for the Protection of Children and Young People in Danger (Law No. 147/99, of 1 September) and the Educational Tutelary Law (Law No. 166/99, of 14 September), determine the intervention of a collective of judges, composed of the Judge of Law and two Social Judges, in the judicial debate in cases of promotion and protection of children and young people in danger and in hearings in which the application of a measure of internment of the minor is at stake.
It is incumbent upon the Municipality of the seat of each court with competence in the area of family and minors to initiate the organization of candidacies, during the month of April, and to prepare the Lists of Social Judges, which will be voted by the Municipal Assembly and sent during the month of June , the Superior Council of the Magistracy and the Ministry of Justice.
The exercise of the position of Social Judge is a mandatory public service and is considered, for all purposes, as provided in the profession, activity or position of the respective holder and Portuguese citizens of recognized repute may apply for the exercise of the functions of Social Judge, aged between 25 and 65 years, who have not been pronounced or have been convicted of a felony.
Applications must be formalized by filling out the application form for social judge, during the month of April, accompanied by curriculum, letter of motivation, certificate of criminal record, medical certificate proving that you do not suffer from an illness/psychic anomaly that makes it impossible the exercise of the position and photocopy of the identification document.
